P&I- Choosing a P&I Marine Surveyor
Gary is an Accredited SAMS AMS® Surveyor providing professionally prepared P&I reports that are accepted by Cargo Receivers, Cargo Terminals, P&I Clubs, Shipping Companies and Insurance companies, citing referenced IMO, ISO, etc. standards in the survey.
It follows that any given cargo may be insured twice: the shipper/cargo-owner will take out conventional cover, and the carrier will have P&I cover. If the cargo is lost or damaged, the cargo-owner should first make a cargo claim against the carrier.
The role of the marine surveyor in preventing losses is for convenience, discussed under three sub-headings below:-
1 Ship’s standards and risk reviews.
2 Ensuring that the club continues to underwrite ships and members of appropriate quality and at the appropriate rating;
3 Operations and claims handling support.
4 Where required and in the event of an incident, to provide expert loss prevention assistance including the gathering of evidence and provision of technical opinion and other guidance to the membership of the club and the club’s claims team;
5 Promoting loss prevention and raising safety standards.
6 Identifying risk triggers, providing guidance in respect of loss prevention, raising safety standards and promoting a culture of safety and loss prevention amongst the membership and the wider shipping industry
